The Northern Exposure Regional Art Competition is an annual extravaganza that brings together artists from the U.P. region for an exhibition and competition to increase attention to their work. This year $3,000 in prizes were awarded in addition to press and media coverage.
Beth entered a piece titled "Nocturnal" for the show and received one of three Arts Network Awards. which can be viewed through December 21 at the Bonifas. Nocturnal is displayed alongside an intriguing collection of works from other artists around the region and is definitely worth a visit!
Unlike most of Beth's work which is flat, "Nocturnal" has multiple 3-D layers of silver, brass, and copper. The concept plays off the predator/ prey relationship. The color variation across the horizon of this piece was done using a patina to mimic the night sky. Little gold flecks were added as stars. If you are intrigued by the piece, you can stop in our shop after the holidays to see it in person!
Art in the Upper Peninsula continues to grow and is supported by the thriving creative community and events like this. Attending and sharing such events are great ways to show your support and allow the artists of your community to continue creating.
