Sled Dogs, Valentine's Day, and A Blizzard - Beth Millner Jewelry

Sled Dogs, Valentine's Day, and A Blizzard

February 13, 2015

I went to sleep thinking that I was going to take my dog on a nice run before going to work today.

I woke up to my phone giving me a weather alert as my morning music was starting...

!Blizzard Warning! Actual temperature +5 F, feels like -20 F, wind gusts up to 20MPH.

HA! No running for Mr. Patch this morning, even if he does give me this face:

(When my alarm goes off, he jumps on me to let me know it's time to run)

(Even when I don't feel like running at 7:30, he's pretty hard to resist. Look at that face.)

The good news is:

We live in the UP.  We're used to this. This Is Winter.  We celebrate this here.

Speaking of Celebrating Winter in the UP!!!!

Toady, for those who aren't blessed to be living in the Queen City, is the UP 200, Midnight Run, and Jack Pine 30 Sled Dog Races.  The UP 200 celebrated 25 years of racing this year!

This exciting race is a qualifier for the Iditarod that is a favorite among mushers for the challenging terrain, cheering crowds, and warm welcome that Yoopers give. This is one of my favorite events of the year! The city brings back the snow they've recently removed from Washington Street (downtown's main drag), local businesses stay open late and make huge amounts of hot cocoa, and the city stays packed with people late into the evening, even in the middle of blizzards!

...Not to mention all the folks who come into town to cheer on the dogs, eat a nice dinner on Valentine's Day, buy locally handmade jewelry for their sweeties...

Thank you to all of those who have made this weekend a busy, busy success at the shop! The Yooper Love Rocks and Woodland Love Pendants have been a big hit so far...

The good news for you procrastinators is that we will be open tomorrow--on Valentine's Day itself!--from 11am until 5pm, if you weren't able to get into the shop during the week, we're still here for you!

We're including a card and some lovely dark chocolate with the purchase of any of our Valentine's day collection, one stop shopping for those of you who are going to be scrambling for a gift before dinner!

                                Yay!

Happy Weekend Everybody!

Andrea

Ring Sizing

Purchase this ring sizer to help determine your ring size. This sizing tool is most accurate for double band rings and bands 6mm and under.

Fingers can change size due to many circumstances, the best way to get an accurate size is to check the size a couple of different times to determine your best size. The majority of our rings can be resized, but if the ring has a stone setting other than a diamond, it probably cannot be resized unless otherwise noted in the item listing.

Some of our rings with stones are shown with the stone not set in order for us to size the ring to your specifications and set the stone afterwards. This avoids damage to the stone during sizing. Reference the individual ring listings for more details. Wide Bands 7mm and above have more friction against the finger and will need to be ordered a little larger.

Our double band rings fit like a narrow band, when getting sized for a double band ring, you can get sized for a ring that is narrow.

When getting your finger sized, inform jeweler of the width band you are intending on purchasing and rely on them to determine your ring size.

Look here for more information about resizing items that you have already received.

Engagement Ring Sizing

Purchase this ring sizer to help determine your ring size. This sizing tool is most accurate for double band rings and bands 6mm and under.

There are many sneaky options for getting the size right, but the best way is to have their finger sized by a professional.

You may be able to sneak one of their rings and bring it into a jewelry store and ask to check the size.

Beth Millner Jewelry has wish lists too, so they could come in to the store and fill out a wish list and hopefully they provides their ring size.

Bracelet & Cuff Sizing

Measure wrist circumference. Take your measurement just above the wrist above bone.

Use the chart below to determine the correct size.

The bracelets we make are designed to fit comfortably, but if a looser fit is preferred, the next size up may be suitable.

Bangle Sizing

Bangle Size is determined by hand size, rather than wrist size

Measure hand size by tucking your thumb in, just like when trying on a bangle. Measure around the thickest part of the hand while in this position.

Use the chart below to determine the correct bangle size.

Pendant & Earring Sizing

When determining the size of pendant or earrings you would like to purchase, please reference the item description which includes the size of the piece.

Also, there will be an image with a hand in the picture to help visualize the size.

When choosing a piece for another person, we find that our customers choose pieces that are similar to their overall stature.

People that are shorter and small tend to like smaller items, tall slender people tend to like our longer larger pieces.

Chain Length

When picking out a chain, 18 inch is the most common length.

This would cause the pendant to sit between the collar bones.
