There is a reason not everybody likes to give cash or Gift-Cards during the holidays. It’s fun to give meaningful gifts that are as unique as everyone on your shopping list. We love helping you find handmade pieces that carry priceless sentimental value and are committed to bring you gifts that matter.
What does that mean to us? Well, When you purchase a Beth Millner Jewelry piece you are supporting an entrepreneurial artist, a staff of eight vibrant employees, four graduates of Northern Michigan University, the upper peninsula community, and a company that genuinely cares about the health of our planet.
Where Your Dollar Goes
For those of you who are local to the Marquette area you can buy with us knowing that your dollars are going right back into the community. Shopping local keeps the community's economy bustling which benefits us all. We also make many pieces that are locally inspired which helps to promote tourism of our beautiful region.
Thanks to support from you and the growth of Beth Millner Jewelry, our team has grown from one to eight employees! Our staff is comprised of eight locally living superstars, four of which have attended Northern Michigan University.
Above is the Beth Millner Jewelry staff minus Nina our studio assistant.
We get to hold creative positions that we are all passionate about. Beth is able to create beautiful pieces for all of us to enjoy with the help of Nina her studio assistant. And the other five of us have varying talents from graphic design and photography to management and marketing.
Community Involvement
The Beth Millner Jewelry staff and store alike find ways to give their time, money, and talents to organizations in the community (see our giving Tuesday blog post for more details on our staff’s contributions). We seek to support others that share our values of artistic expression and environmentalism and collaborate as much as possible.
Every year we accept applications for organizations to have a custom piece of jewelry made in their honor. We feature the piece and information about the respective organization in the front display case of our downtown Marquette storefront. In addition a portion of the proceeds goes directly to the organization. Right now we have pieces for the Upper Peninsula Land Conservancy, Superior Arts Youth Theatre, the Superior Watershed Partnership, and the Noquemanon Trail Network.
Recently we were able to donate $900 to the Marquette women’s center from our proceeds of Ladies Night, an event for women downtown Marquette. Thank you to all who helped make that possible.
We also recently purchased two solar panels in the solar garden here in Marquette which means we contribute to our community relying more on clean energy! We hope to purchase more as we continue to grow.
Eco-Friendly Pieces and Processes
We understand that taking care of our planet is of utmost importance to ensure quality of life for all its inhabitants. Not to mention preserving the beauty of the natural world which inspires Beth’s designs.
Steps are taken at each level of our business to be environmentally conscious. We reduce, reuse, and recycle as much as possible. Each of our handmade items are made from recycled metal. A portion of our pieces are also made using UP copper from the White Pine Mine. All of our diamonds are certified recycled as well so you can feel ethically comforted when purchasing a BMJ piece containing one.
All of our jewelry is packaged in recycled boxes and bags with recycled padding when shipping. In addition we print on recycled paper and printing labels, use natural cleaning products, and choose natural over chemical options in the studio whenever possible.
